Submissions

Submit to Of Maps and Monsters

We welcome submissions that explore the artistic and imaginative intersections of historical cartography, focusing on maps and the monsters or mythical creatures that inhabit them. Whether through academic essays, journalistic pieces, or creative storytelling, we encourage work that reveals new perspectives on how geography and myth once intertwined.

What We’re Looking For

We invite contributions that delve into lesser-known maps, overlooked aspects of well-known cartographers, or the fantastical creatures that haunt the edges of historical cartography. If your piece shines a light on the uncharted territories of art history, cartography, or mythical storytelling, we’d love to hear from you. To get a sense of our interests please take a look at past contributions.

Considerations

  • Length: Most contributions are around 1,500-2,500 words, though we welcome longer or shorter pieces if the content calls for it.
  • Background: We encourage submissions from those with an academic grounding or a strong knowledge of art history or cartography, but all voices with a passion for the subject are welcome.
